Michigan State Police are searching for a driver who fired shots at another driver on the Lodge Freeway in Detroit Monday night.
The innocent driver called 911 around 7:20 p.m. to report the shooting that occurred in the southbound lanes near McNichols. The driver met with troopers near I-75 and Trumbull and said he was driving his Dodge Ram truck in the left lane when a driver in front of him, in a Chevy SUV “brake checked” him. The victim moved into the center lane and that's when the Chevy pulled alongside and fired several shots at the Ram, according to State Police.
The vehicle was not hit and no one was injured.
“The freeway was closed for evidence collection and has reopened.” said MSP First Lieutenant Mike Shaw in a post on X. “While it is not very smart to get in a confrontation while driving, it is ridiculous to fire shots at someone during that confrontation. We are fortunate an innocent bystander wasn’t hurt in this confrontation."
The investigation is ongoing. Police will be using technology to try to find the shooter. Anyone with information should call Michigan State Police.
