Thousands of University of Michigan basketball fans took to the streets of Ann Arbor to celebrate the team's national championship, and police say there were a few problems.
Police officers lined South University near Church Street as students, some who spent Sunday night outside of bars, ran into the streets just before 11:30 p.m.
Two people were arrested and Ann Arbor firefighters extinguished more than 40 fires in connection with the post-game celebration. Multiple street signs were also damaged during the celebration, according to police.
Most fires involved discarded furniture, including couches, and other debris, according to the Ann Arbor Fire Department. None of the fires spread to structures or vehicles.
There were no serious injuries reported.
The celebrations lasted for just over an hour.
The police department said it is looking forward to hosting a safe and celebratory parade in the coming days.
As for the game, Michigan made only 2 3-point shots, but scored many points in the paint for the 69-63 win. It is UM's first national championship since 1989.
Guard Elliot Cadeau led the Wolverines with 19 points and was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
UM started a lineup that included all transfers.
