HOWELL (WWJ) - One person is dead and another is in police custody following an overnight shooting reported at a home in Livingston County, authorities said.
The Howell Police Department said they're continuing to investigate the fatal incident that occurred just after midnight on Friday, August 11 at a home on the 400 block of West Street, a few blocks from the downtown area.
Officers along with deputies with the Livingston County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene after receiving a report of gunfire in the area and found a 20-year-old man deceased with apparent gunshot wounds.
A crime scene was immediately established with the area closed off for several hours as detectives collected evidence.
"There is currently no threat to the public as we have a suspect in custody," Howell police said in an 7 a.m. update. "We ask that no one respond to the scene in order to give investigators time to conduct their investigation."
In addition to deputies from Livingston County, police said they were assisted by troopers with the Michigan State Police and Livingston County EMS.
No other details were made public, New information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
