MENOMINEE TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A 60-year-old was killed and another occupant was injured after their off-road vehicle struck a deer, rolled over and downed a utility pole in the Upper Peninsula last weekend.
The Menominee County Sheriff's Office reported the fatal crash on Nov. 8, five days after it occurred just after 6 p.m. on Number 10 Road in Menominee Township.
Deputies were dispatched to the scene where they observed a Can Am side-by-side that appeared to have hit a deer before it left the roadway and struck a utility pole.
The incident was described as a rollover crash that resulted in downed powerlines, the sheriff's office said.
One of the vehicle's occupants and transported off the scene for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. Their condition was not released.
A second occupant, identified as 60-year-old Ralph Vanpool Sr. of Wallace, Mich., was pronounced dead at the scene.
