DETROIT (WWJ) -- One man is dead and five others injured after a shooting at a Detroit banquet hall on the city's east side.
WWJ's Charlie Langton reports that gunshots rang out just after 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday outside the Chalmers Banquet Hall on Chalmers near East Outer Drive.
Family members say the man who died was 28-years-old and was in a wheelchair from a prior gunshot wound.
According to relatives, he was also an innocent bystander who got caught in the crossfire of bullets when the unknown suspect or suspects drove by and started firing.
Five other victims -- two men and three women -- were taken to the hospital and treated for injuries. They are expected to recover.
Detectives marked at least 20 casings at the scene, and they now believe the situation could have been a shootout.
Detroit police are searching for suspects and Commander Eric Decker is asking any witnesses to come forward with information by calling 911 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
