CHESTERFIELD TWP. (WWJ) -- One person has died following a crash that injured multiple people late last week in Northern Macomb County.
The Chesterfield Township Police Department said Wednesday that it's still investigating the wreck that happened Friday, Dec. 9, at the intersection of New Haven Rd. and 26 Mile Rd.
First responders, on the scene just before 2:30 p.m., found two vehicles with multiple passengers had been involved in the crash "with heavy damage and multiple victims with serious injuries," police said, in a news release.
All of the people were taken by EMS to an area hospital where one of them, a 79-year-old Lenox Twp. resident, has since died of his injuries. Police said the man was a passenger in one of the cars.
There is no update on the conditions of the other injured people at this time.
As for what led to the crash, police said an investigation found that a 19-year-old Lenox Twp. resident made a left turn in front of a vehicle driven by a 57-year-old Lenox Twp. resident.
It's not clear at this time if any charges are expected to be filed.
On Wednesday, police said the incident remained under investigation by the Chesterfield Twp. Crash Investigation Team and the Detective Bureau.
Police did note that alcohol or drugs do not to appear to have been a factor.
The name of the man who died was not immediately released.
