ST. CLAIR COUNTY (WWJ) - An early morning rollover crash on I-69 in St. Clair County killed one woman, but two children were brought to safety after Good Samaritans stopped to help, authorities said.
The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called to the scene of crash involving a vehicle that had flipped around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 6 on the westbound I-69 at the exit ramp to Wales Center Road.
When authorities arrived at the crash site, they saw a dark Ford Fusion had rolled over and had come to a stop near the median. Several Good Samaritans were also at the scene with one person attempting CPR on a woman assumed to be the driver.
She was pronounced dead at the scene by Tri-hospital EMS personnel.
According to the sheriff's office, two other people extracted a child from the wrecked vehicle while a second child found walking around the area was brought to safety.
Deputies said the two children were taken to St. John Moross as a precaution -- both are said to be in stable condition.
A section of I-69 was shut down by St. Clair County's Accident Investigation Team as they processed the scene. The area was reopened to traffic at around 8:15 a.m.
An investigation into the crash remains active at this time with no other information released pending family notifications.
