DETROIT (WWJ) -- Seven people are in police custody, awaiting charges following an officer-involved shooting in Detroit over the weekend.
The Detroit Police Department had task force officers doing surveillance at a gas station on Conant and Outer Drive Saturday night, as part of an investigating into a string of carjackings in the area.
"Seven people are suspected of at least five carjackings in the last 48 hours," WWJ Newsradio 950's Charlie Langton reported. "But the Detroit Police Auto Theft Taskforce had a crew tracking these people, found them at a gas station, and they actually witnessed an attempted carjacking."
According to investigators, the suspects pulled up and tried to carjack a man. One of a suspects allegedly aimed a gun at police, and the officers fired shots, hitting the armed man.
The wounded suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment, and is expected to be okay, Langton said.
The six other suspects were arrested on the scene.
Charges could be filed against all seven suspects as early as Monday.Their names are being withheld pending their arraignments.
