
WIXOM (WWJ) -- A 1-year-old girl is in critical condition after being mauled by two dogs in a Wixom home.
According to Wixom Police, a homeowner called 911 at around 9 p.m. Wednesday to report that the family's two pit bulls had attacked their grandchild at a home on Nissen Court, near Maple Road.
Officers arrived to find the toddler had been bitten on her face, forehead, lower back and legs, suffering "severe lacerations," police said.
The little girl was rushed to Ascension Providence Hospital in Novi and then transferred to University of Michigan's Mott Children's Hospital where she was awaiting surgery on Thursday. At last report she remained in critical condition, according to police.
The homeowners also suffered minor injuries, police said, was treated at the scene, and declined to be taken to the hospital.
Police did not say where the dogs are at this time.
Oakland County Animal Control is assisting Wixom Police with the ongoing investigation.
