IOSCO COUNTY (WWJ) -- A family is grieving after their ten-year-old son drowned in Lake Huron, Monday afternoon.

The Iosco County Sheriff's Department says the ten-year-old, who was autistic, was floating on a tube near Tawas when he drifted away from his group of family and friends.

The boy was not wearing a life jacket when he fell out of his flotation device. Family members tried to find him, but the water was too deep. Divers from local police departments, as well as the Coast Guard, were called in to help.

After about an hour from the time of call and 40 minutes of searching in the water; the USCG located the boy under the water and was rushed to MyMichigan Tawas by Iosco EMS where he died from his injuries. Foul play has been ruled out and the incident appears to an accident.

Authorities always advise anyone who is on the water to wear a life jacket or have some type of floatation device.
