DETROIT (WWJ) A 12-year-old Detroit boy has been charged in the deadly shooting of a man.
Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged the child, who will not be named because he is a minor, with one count of Manslaughter and one count of Felony Firearm. He will be prosecuted as a juvenile.
Police say they were called to a home around 9:30 p.m. Sunday in the area of Six Mile and the Lodge, in a neighborhood just across the street from the DMC Sinai Hospital. Officers found the victim, D'Vonte Relford, 25, outside the house with multiple gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police told WWJ the child fired a handgun during a physical altercation, shooting Relford in the back.
No other information has been released including the relationship between the child and the victim, or what lead up to the altercation.
He is due in court later this afternoon for a preliminary hearing.
