DETROIT (WWJ) -- A 13-year-old boy has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of another teenager in Detroit.

On Tuesday night, at around 9:15 p.m., Detroit Police said the juvenile defendant got into a fight with a 14-year-old boy in the area of Burnett St. and Burgess Ave. on the city's west side.

The situation escalated, and it's alleged that the 13-year-old pulled out a knife and stabbed the other teen in the neck.

When police and EMS responded, the victim was found lying in the street, officials said. He was taken a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

Authorities have identified the victim as a Southfield resident, although his name has not been released.

The 13-year-old, whose name will not be released due to his age, has been charged with Second-Degree Murder.

He appeared for a Preliminary Hearing Thursday afternoon at the Lincoln Hall of Justice before a referee, and was remanded to custody at the Dickerson juvenile facility.

A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for Aug. 28 before Judge Michael McClory.

Police and prosecutors have not released any details about what led up to the fight.
