DETROIT (WWJ) -- A 13-year-old Detroit boy who went on the run after allegedly shooting his father has been arrested in Ohio.
Police said the shooting happened at around 5 p.m. Tuesday at a home on Bretton Dr. near Grand River Ave. and Southfield, in the Rosedale Park neighborhood on the city's west side.
According to investigators, the teen shot his dad twice in the back following a "disciplinary dispute" between them.
He then fled in his dad's car — a 2026 Rivian SUV — taking the family dog with him.
The boy was tracked by police to Ohio where he was taken into custody, along with another person who was in the car with him, police said.
The father survived the shooting, was taken to a hospital for treatment. There is no update on his condition at this time, but officials said he was expected to recover.
A neighbor, Elizabeth Ashford, said the family had just moved to the block within the last year, and that news of the shooting has left the neighborhood shaken.
"For that young man, I hope whatever you're fighting through, you'll have to take it up with God," she told WWJ Newsradio 950's Darrylin Horne. "I'm so sorry. I hate to be religious at this time, but you're going to have to confront your consequences one day. And I'm sorry for the father."
The teen was expected to be extradited back to Detroit to face a judge on Wednesday.
The investigation into what led up to the shooting is ongoing.
