14-year-old boy arrested in string of auto thefts in Royal Oak

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) -- A 14-year-old boy has been arrested after an investigation into several recent car thefts in Royal Oak.

Officials say they were following up on two auto theft reports when they located security camera footage of a masked suspect.

One of the stolen vehicles, a Hyundai Sonata, was located and put under surveillance. Officers and detectives then spotted the teenage suspect returning to the stolen vehicle where he was quickly taken into custody.

After further investigation, the 14-year-old is thought to be responsible for additional auto thefts.

He's being held at Oakland County Children's Village.
