KALAMAZOO COUNTY (WWJ) - A teenager in West Michigan is in big trouble with the law after police said the minor stole a truck and rammed into a patrol vehicle while trying to get away on Wednesday.

The Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office said the juvenile was arrested in the early morning hours of April 26th after a homeowner in the 3700 block of Woodmere Lane called police to report their Ford F-250 truck had been stolen from their driveway.

Officers were dispatched to the scene just after 5.am. and spotted the stolen vehicle moments later near North 26th Street and East Michigan Avenue.

According to a press release from the sheriff's office, the driver refused to pull over for deputies and continued down East Michigan Ave.

Police chased after the truck until it wrecked against a guardrail at East Michigan Avenue and Riverview Drive.

The driver still continued to try and flee from police by throwing the truck into reverse and crashing into a patrol car, the sheriff's office added.

The suspect was taken into custody after the crash when they got out of the truck from the passenger side.

"The suspect, a Comstock Township resident, was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home on charges of motor vehicle theft and fleeing and eluding," deputies said.

Officials identified the suspect as a 14-year-old.

Neither the teen or deputies were injured in the incident.
