HARRISON TWP (WWJ) Huron-Clinton Metroparks officials are announcing $15 million in improvements coming to Lake St. Clair Metropark in Harrison Township.

Some of the highlights include reopening the North Marina, expanding accessibility throughout the park, new trail connections, and advancing sustainability initiatives.

Park officials say The North Marina will open again after 8 years with 78 boat slips for temporary docking-- almost double its existing capacity. It will also include a dedicated fishing area on the lagoon's west side, bollard-style lighting upgrades to keep fishflies away, expanded picnic areas and a new fire pit.

The North Marina Boathouse will also undergo extensive renovations to serve as the hub of the marina area. The boathouse will house year-round family restrooms, updated shower and toilet facilities, a boater registration area, vending machines and accessible adult changing tables.

The park is partnering with DTE to upgrade and replace 14,000 ft. (2.5 miles) of primary conductors and more than a dozen transformers. Huron-Clinton Metroparks announced they'll shift ownership of the grid to DTE after historically managing its own power infrastructure.

Officials say all three projects are slated for completion by Memorial Day 2027.

Other improvements include: a full renovation of the West Boardwalk by planting native trees and adding universally accessible picnic areas; and improvements to the Daysail Trail, by adding a half-mile of accessible trail and completing a looped hike-bike trail through the park.

Finally, Huron-Clinton Metroparks will invest in the Greening of Lot C by planting 55 trees in curbed parking islands while improving stormwater management and maintaining nearly 500 parking spaces.

The projects are made possible by grants ranging from a half-million dollars to $1.5 million from The Michigan Economic Development Corporation, FEMA and the Land and Water Conservation Fund.

Park officials call this the biggest improvement to Lake St. Clair Metropark in decades.
