DETROIT (WWJ) Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged a 15-year-old Detroit boy in a double shooting that injured his own mother and killed a 14-year-old Detroit boy.
According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office; the teen was charged with Second-Degree Murder and Felony Firearm—with an adult designation. An adult designation gives the judge the option of sentencing the boy as either a juvenile or an adult after conviction— or "to fashion a blended sentence with the option of imposing an adult sentence if (he) is not rehabilitated." It is different than charging him as an adult.
Prosecutors said— on November 7th— Detroit Police were dispatched to a reported shooting at Seward and Second, near Woodward and Grand Boulevard. Upon their arrival just after 6 p.m.; officers found the 14-year-old lying on the ground with "multiple gunshot wounds." Medics rushed the teen to the hospital, where he passed away four days later on November 11th.
The suspect's mother was privately driven to a local hospital.
Prosecutors said a verbal argument allegedly escalated between the two boys— and the 15-year-old pulled out a handgun, and fired multiple times. The bullets struck the 14-year-old in the head, left arm, right hand, and left thigh—and the 32-year-old in her right arm.
No information was released about how the suspect and victim knew each other, if at all.
The 15-year-old was charged with Second-Degree Murder and Felony Firearm and remanded to a juvenile detention facility. A preliminary examination will be held on November 19th at the Lincoln Hall of Justice in Detroit.
