16-month-old baby hospitalized after being shot in the head in Ann Arbor home

ANN ARBOR (WWJ) -- A small child has been hospitalized after being shot in Ann Arbor.

It’s not clear what happened on Sunday afternoon at the home on Maple Road, but authorities say a 16-month-old boy was shot one time in the head just after 1 p.m.

The child’s father was taking him to the hospital when he called 911.

Paramedics met the father and took the child to U of M Children’s Hospital, where he was immediately rushed into surgery.

At this time, it is not known how the child was shot, or who pulled the trigger.

As the investigation continues, police say there does not appear to be any threat to the public.
