
MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ) - Two Macomb County men accused of stealing thousands of dollars in frozen fish from a food distribution center were busted by police after cop discovered the stolen loot in the back of their SUV last week.
Erwin Wilson, 30, and Michael Mitchell, 50, both of Warren, were arraigned on embezzlement charges on Tuesday, May 16, in connection to the case after they allegedly loaded stolen frozen fish out of the Lipari Foods warehouse in Warren on Thursday, May 11.
They then took off in a Cadillac Escalade owned and driven by Mitchell, officials said.
Warren police were able to locate the SUV and found the stolen fish. Both Mitchell and Wilson were arrested.
Wilson, who is an employee at Lipari Foods, was charged with Embezzlement less than $100,000, a 15 year felony. if convicted, while Mitchell was charged with Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property more than $1,000, less than $20,000, a five year felony.
Both men were arraigned in Warren 37th District Court.
A judge gave Mitchell a $25,000.00 personal bond. Mitchell’s probable cause hearing is scheduled for Thursday, May 23.
Wilson was given a $20,000.00 cash/surety or 10% bond. His probable cause hearing is scheduled for Thursday, May 23.
Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido praised the quick work of law enforcement and said crimes like this hurt not only business owners, but also their employees.
“The defendants stand accused of stealing frozen fish, an act that not only violates the law but also affects the livelihoods of business owners and their employees. Thank you to the Warren Police Department for their quick response in this case,” Lucido added.
