DETROIT (WWJ) – Two young men are in custody after allegedly crashing into a building in Detroit early Sunday morning while trying to elude police.
Michigan State Police troopers were on patrol shortly after midnight Sunday when they saw a speeding driver being them, officials said.
As the car approached, the driver slammed on the brakes in an attempt to not pass the patrol car. The suspect then "abruptly turned onto 14th Street and drove at a high rate of speed."
The troopers turned around and activated their lights and siren. They tried to pull the car over, but the suspect driver did not stop and troopers did not give chase.
Troopers checked the immediate area and saw that the suspect had crashed into a building at 14th and Oakman Boulevard.
The two suspects were seen running away from the scene. A short time later they ran into a gated parking lot, where they surrendered after finding they had nowhere to go.
MSP officials identified the suspects as a 22-year-old driver from Warren and a 19-year-old passenger from Detroit.
The driver was treated for injuries he received in the crash, while the passenger was not hurt.
Both were arrested and held at the Detroit Detention Center. The case is pending prosecutor review.
