DETROIT (WWJ) -- Two people have been charged with the abuse, torture and murder of a 7-year-old boy in a horrific case in Detroit.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy on Wednesday announced the case against 23-year-old Alisha Renee Hollamon and 21-year-old Avion Traylor after investigators say the abuse of the child led to his death last weekend.
Just after 12 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22, Detroit Police responded to a home in the 3700 block of Hurlbut Street on the city's east side, on a report of a child who had been abused.
Officers arrived to find the victim with "apparent scars and abrasions" across his face, back and chest. The child was taken by EMS to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
It is alleged, according to prosecutors, that Hollamon and Traylor "physically abused the boy, fatally injuring him."
It's unclear how long the boy had allegedly been abused before police became aware of the situation. Detroit Police said DPD investigators will remain involved with this matter and will assist the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office as it prosecutes this case.
While no further information is being released at this time, prosecutors said more details about the case will be released during the preliminary examination.
Hollamon and Traylor are charged with one count each of Felony Murder, First-Degree Child Abuse, and Torture, and were scheduled to be arraigned in 36th District Court on Wednesday.
The defendants face up to life in prison if convicted as charged.
