NORTHFIELD TWP. (WWJ) -- Two people are behind bars in connection with a deadly triple shooting and alleged child abduction in rural Washtenaw County.
Police said a call came at around 9 p.m. Tuesday about shots fired at a home on Nollar Bend, in the area of Territorial and 5 Mile Rd. in Northfield Township, north of Ann Arbor.
Officers arrived to find three people had been shot.
According to Northfield Twp. Police Lt. David Powell, a 75-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman were killed. Powell said the third victim was a 53-year-old man who was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Powell said two young children were taken from the home after the shooting, but have since been recovered.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Mike Campbell reports early information is that adults in the home were fostering the kids: both of them girls, ages 4 and 7. Sources tell WWJ this was a custody dispute, but police have not yet confirmed a motive in the case.
"One of the girls was found at a home in Ypsilanti Township, and the other in a vehicle with three suspects: Two males and a female," Campbell said. "One of them believed to be a biological parent of one of those children."
The children were not hurt.
A man and a woman were taken into custody.
Powell said the investigation was ongoing as of Tuesday morning. Once it's complete, the case will be sent to prosecutors to determine charges.
No names have been released.
