MADISON HEIGHTS (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police pulled over a man driving 30 mph over the speed limit in a construction zone on Thursday -- and found a pistol on his dashboard.

According to officials, a MSP trooper stopped a driver who was traveling 90 mph in a 60 mph zone, on northbound I-75 in Madison Heights. When the officer walked up to the car he noticed a handgun on the dashboard.

The 32-year-old male driver from Sterling Heights admitted to not having a Concealed Pistol License, so he was taken into custody.

He told police that he could have the pistol on the dash because it was unloaded.

The firearm was seized and the driver is currently in custody.

Charges have not been filed, so far.
