Car catches on fire after slamming into parked semi-truck, killing 2 in Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) – Two people are dead after an early-morning crash on Detroit's northeast side.

Detroit police officials tell WWJ two people were riding in a black Mercury Marauder around 5:15 a.m. when it crashed into a parked semi-truck.


Authorities say the crash happened on eastbound 8 Mile Road near Mound Road.

The Mercury was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed when it slammed into the truck.

The vehicle then caught fire. When Detroit police officers and firefighters showed up to the scene, they found two people dead inside the car.

Authorities have not identified either victim, and investigators are still working to determine what exactly happened leading up to the crash.
