MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ) - Two men were arraigned on charges after the pair allegedly walked into a Macomb County salon to book an appointment, but robbed the business at gunpoint instead.
The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office said Joseph David Edmunds, age 57, and Bubbie Tillman, age 60, face life behind bars in the alleged incident after both were arraigned on Armed Robbery charge, a life felony.
According to officials, the men were at the Menzie Salon on Ryan Road last Saturday, April 22, when Edmunds walked in the door, approached the victim and inquired about a haircut.
Edmunds was referred to another stylist to book the appointment, police said, but he pulled out a handgun and demanded all the victim's money.
The victim complied, police said, and Edmunds left the salon. The victim told officers that they saw Edmunds run to a white Jeep that they recognized as belonging to Tillman.
The victim explained they had an altercation with Tillman a few weeks earlier, police added.
Both men were arrested be police and arraigned in Warren District Court on Tuesday. A judge gave Edmunds a $750,000 cash/surety with bond conditions upon release of having a steel cuff tether and no contact with the victim or place of the offense.
Edmunds was referred to Community Corrections for a mental health assessment.
Tillman's bond was set at $850,000 cash/surety where upon release, he too was ordered to wear a GPS tether, no contact with the victim or place of the offense. Tillman was also referred to Community Corrections for a mental health assessment.
Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido said his office is now requesting mental health assessments as a bond condition for those who allegedly commit crimes with guns.
"Our goal is to decrease gun violence and help those with mental health issues," he added.
Both men are due back in Warren District Court on Tuesday, May 9 at 8:45 a.m.
