2 teens dead, 2 injured after SUV crashes into boulder in Lenawee County

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- A high-speed crash in Lenawee County has left two teens dead, and two others injured.

The tragic situation happened on Monday just after 8 p.m. on North Adrian Highway in Franklin Township.

After State police arrived at the scene, it was determined that an SUV was traveling south on the highway at a high rate of speed when the driver ran off the road, and struck a large boulder in front of a residence.

The vehicle then rolled over several times, and eventually came to a stop about 20 feet into a nearby wooded area.

According to officials, four 17-year-old boys were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The driver was airlifted to St. Vincent Hospital in Toledo with life-threatening injuries, while the front seat passenger also sustained serious injuries and was rushed to University of Michigan hospital by ambulance.

The two teenagers who were riding in the back of the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene.

In the aftermath of the crash, police shut down North Adrian Highway for about six hours to investigate. At present time, investigators do not believe that drugs or alcohol were factors in the accident.

MSP is urging anyone who may have additional information on the incident to call 734-242-3500.
