
HARPER WOODS (WWJ) - Police are investigating the circumstances that led to someone open firing and striking two vehicles that were gathered in the parking lot of a Harper Woods middle school on Friday evening.
According to the Harper Woods Police Department, the incident unfolded at around 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 26th when gunfire was reported in the parking lot of the Triumph Middle School located at 19890 Anita.
Police said several vehicles were in the parking lot at the time, which was being used as a staging area for a convoy that was going to drive attendees to an out-of-city location for the Harper Woods High School prom.
"This staging of vehicles and convoy was not known or authorized by the Harper Woods School District or the Harper Woods Police Department," authorities added.
Gunfire struck two of the vehicles, causing damage, but no one was hit or injured.
Detectives with Harper Woods PD are actively investigating the incident with the help of several other local law enforcement agencies. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear and it unknown if police have identified a possible suspect or suspects.
