(WWJ) The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) is reporting 21 new school outbreaks within the past two weeks.
Seven of them are in Macomb County.
High schools have been closed for the past month as part of the Health Department's restrictions to slow the spread of the virus, but they received the green light to reopen today (Monday). However, many are on holiday break until after the New Year.
Four cases were reported at Armada High School, with cases amongst both staff and students.
The rest of the cases are in middle, elementary and preschools; with both students and staff testing positive for the virus.
The other outbreaks in Metro Detroit are as follows:
Macomb County:
Macomb-Glen H. Peters School, (2 cases, staff)
Macomb-Little Turtle Early Childhood School (2 cases, students)
St. Clair Shores- St. Isaac Jogues Catholic School (4 cases, students)
St. Clair Shores-St. Joan of Arc School (4 cases, students)
Utica-Trinity Lutheran School (2 cases, students)
Warren- Warren Woods Middle School (2 cases, both staff and students)
Oakland County:
Clarkston-Clarkston Elementary
Farmington- Farmington Hills Schools Maintenance (2 cases, staff)
Rochester -Holy Family Regional (2 cases, staff and students)
Washtenaw County:
Chelsea- Chelsea Schools (3 cases, staff)
Saline- Pleasant Ridge Elementary (2 cases, staff)

An outbreak is defined as two or more cases tied to the same setting and a similar time/date.
Meantime, the daily case count in Michigan appears to be trending downward. The MDHHS confirmed 4,551 new cases over the past two days along with 71 deaths.
8.4% of the tests conducted in the past 24 hours have come back positive, down from about 15% positivity rate in early December.

Just over 3,140 people are hospitalized statewide with a confirmed case of COVID-19 and 702 are in the Intensive Care Unit, according to MDHHS.
11,532 Michiganders have lost their lives to the virus out of a total of 463,403 confirmed cases. The fatality rate of confirmed cases is about 2.5%.
More than 284,731 are deemed recovered after surviving one month since testing positive for the virus.
