DETROIT (WWJ) -- After being shot at and hit in the shoulder on I-94 while driving in Detroit, a young woman was able to make her way to a police station for help.
Around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, Michigan State Police were contacted by the Detroit Police Department in connection with a freeway shooting on westbound I-94 at Dickerson on Detroit's east side.
The victim -- a 23-year-old Clinton Township woman -- had been at a party earlier in the evening and left to take her friends back to their home in Downtown Detroit.
Driving on eastbound I-94, she exited the freeway to fill up her gas tank. She told police that she felt uncomfortable, though, and decided to get back on the highway instead.
Now heading westbound on I-94, she was travelling in the right lane when another car pulled up alongside her and fired multiple rounds.
The woman sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the shoulder but was able to drive to DPD's 9th Precinct.
Officers transported her to a local hospital and contacted MSP.
State troopers closed the affected stretch of I-94 and found two shell casings. The freeway has since re-opened.
This is an open investigation. Authorities do not have a suspect description at this time.
