LIVONIA (WWJ) -- People in a Livonia neighborhood are on edge after a man wearing a white painter's jumpsuit was spotted trying to break into a home.

Livonia Police confirm the man was trying to enter the house near Newburgh Road between Five and Six Mile roads through the back entrance.

He was spotted by the homeowner, Victoria Williams, who encountered the man on the side of her house, Wednesday morning.

"As I hit our gate, he hit the gate at the same time," Williams told WWJ's Ryan Wrecker Wednesday afternoon. "I saw he had a screwdriver in his hand and he had on black gloves, everything was covered."

Williams called 911 and told police she needed help.

She said he mumbled something about checking on something for someone. "And I was like, 'No you're not; no one's supposed to be here'," Williams said.

She said the man then said, "Oh, sorry, sorry," before putting his hands on her.

"He grabbed the neckline of my sweatshirt and a part of my neck and tried to push me back to open the gate. And he was able to push me back far enough to get out of the gate," Williams said.

The man pushed her down and ran for a few houses and then started walking, according to Williams.

She had a couple cuts, but is okay.

Williams, who shared her home security video with WWJ, said she feels a little unsafe now.

"It makes you think like, I live in Livonia, it's never gonna happen here and then it does and that's your 'Oh my God' moment," Williams said. "I was always raised you pay attention to your surroundings... I'm not going to allow this individual to get under my skin or make me more anxious or scared to be in the town I grew up in, he doesn't deserve that power over me to scare me."

Livonia police continue to investigate. Anyone with information should call Livonia police.
