STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) A crash involving a tow truck and semi tractor killed one person.
Sterling Heights Police said the crash happened on the morning of Tuesday, July 21, on Mound Road at the Dorby Drive intersection, near Ryan Road.
Authorities said their preliminary investigation revealed a red semi tractor traveling south on Mound went through the greenlight at the Dorby intersection. At the same time, a westbound red tow truck on Dorby Drive passed through the red light at the Mound intersection.
The two vehicles collided, police said.
Sterling Heights police officers and firefighters attempted life-saving measures on the tow truck driver, but he died at the scene. He was identified as a 29-year-old Detroit man.
Police did not release his name.
The semi driver refused treatment at the scene, according to police.
Authorities do not believe alcohol played a role in the crash.
