HAMTRAMCK (WWJ) - Residents in Hamtramck are waking up in the dark on Thursday morning after strong winds knocked out power to over a couple thousand people.
According to the DTE outage map, just over 3,000 customers in Wayne County are without power near the Hamtramck's border with Detroit in the area of Joseph Campau Street and Caniff.
The energy company stated wind damage was to blame after a weather system pushed its way through the area overnight, bringing gusty conditions to Southeast Michigan.
A WWJ listener called in to say he woke up at 3:30 this morning after he heard a loud pop — then all went dark.
DTE currently doesn't have an estimated time for when power will be restored, but did say several crews are out in the field working to fix the problem.
AccuWeather meteorologist Dean DeVore said Metro Detroiters can expect rainy conditions with gusty winds into the morning commute. The rain will eventally taper off into occasional showers in the afternoon hours.
The high is expected to reach 42° to 46° before colder, cloudier conditions move in Thursday night. There is a chance for some flurries with a possible snow shower, DeVore said.
Temperatures are expected to dip into the low 30s overnight.
