DETROIT (WWJ) -- Three young Detroit men have been charged in connection with a drive-by shooting that critically injured an 11-year-old girl who is not expected to survive.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kim Worthy Friday morning announced that 18-year-old Tahkari Turner and 19-year-old Nasser Garrett are facing nine counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, one count of Discharge in or at a Building Causing Serious Impairment, and 10 counts of Felony Firearm.
The two are accused of firing the shots into a home on Pennsylvania Street where 11-year-old Lamara Glenn was sleeping, early Tuesday morning.
Glenn was shot in the head.
"Sadly, this tragic event had the worst possible outcome," said Detroit Police Chief James White, speaking at a Friday afternoon news conference. "This beautiful 11-year-old girl is likely to lose her life; it's almost a certainty."
"Her family is working through, right now, the last moments of her life, and making a decision to do the unspeakable — something a parent should never have to think about doing — and that is taking their child off life support," the chief said.
WWJ's Charlie Langton reports the charges against Turner and Garrett will likely be elevated to murder if the child does die of her injuries.
As the investigation is ongoing, White did not talk about a motive possible ,or what led up to the suspect's firing 23 rounds into young victim's home, in the area of Gratiot Ave. and I-94.
"I speak for our officers, our investigators, our command team and every member of this department when I say we are furious over this incident and the senseless violence." White said. "I brag about this department being tenacious, working very hard reducing crime levels we haven't seen since 1966. But you just can't police stupidity, and when adults decide to bring children and to their confrontations and conflicts, that's just completely unacceptable."
A GoFundMe has been set up by the child's mother, Brandy Crenshaw to help cover memorial expenses.

In addition to the two alleged gunmen, 20-year-old Robert Lee Turner, Jr., has been charged as an accomplice with the following: one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, one count of Felon in Possession of Ammunition, two counts of Felony Firearm, one count of Accessory After the Fact, and one count of Tampering with Evidence.
Authorities say eight other people were in the home as well, including a 43-year-old woman, a 38-year-old man, an 18-year-old man, a 16-year-old girl, a 12-year-old girl, another 11-year-old girl, an 8-year-old girl, and a 7-year-old girl, all of Detroit. While all of them are considered victims in this case, prosecutors clarified Friday that, fortunately, no others were hit by any bullets.
While police earlier said two additional suspects were arrested in connection with this incident, no further charges have yet been filed.
Prosecutor Kym Worthy said, in a statement: "These senseless shootings are even more tragic when innocent people, especially a child, is harmed. The evidence will show that the defendants are responsible for this brutal and violent assault. This case is still under investigation, and we expect other potential defendants will be charged," said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.
Tahkar Turner and Garrett were remanded to jail without bond following their arraignments in 36th District Court on Friday.
Turner received a $250,000 cash bond on the condition he wear a GPS tether if he's released.
All three defendants will be back in court for a probable cause conference scheduled for March 1.
