WHITEFORD TWP. (WWJ) – Three people, including a 17-year-old girl, are hospitalized in critical condition after the teen behind the wheel of a Subaru Outback ran a stop sign in Monroe County Saturday night.

The crash happened just before 8 p.m. when the girl, from Adrian, disregarded the stop sign at Memorial Highway on Sterns Road in Whiteford Township, according to the sheriff's office.

The Subaru hit a Chevrolet Cruze in the middle of the intersection. The Cruze came to rest on the shoulder of Memorial, while the Outback rotated clockwise, left the road and went into a wooded area, coming to rest in a ditch.

Two 20-year-olds inside the Chevy, also from Adrian, were injured in the crash. All three involved in the crash were taken to ProMedica Toledo Hospital and were listed in critical condition.

The sheriff's office says all three were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash and airbags deployed in both cars.

Authorities believe driver inattention played a role in the crash.

Members of the Ottawa Lake Fire Department, Bedford Township Fire Department, and Monroe Community Ambulance assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation and officials are asking anyone with information to call the Monroe County Sheriff's Office at 734-240-7548. Anonymous tips can be called in to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP or can be submitted on their website, www.1800speakup.org.
