(WWJ) Parents are reminded to take steps to protect their children from predators, as three Michigan men have been arrested for possession of child pornography.
The Michigan State Police (MSP) Computer Crimes Unit, Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force on Thursday announced the charges in three separate cases in the MSP Third District, which covers the Thumb and Tri-Cities area.
MSP said all three men were arrested after digital evidence was seized from their homes. In each case, according to police, the investigation was initiated when it was learned that the suspect was viewing files of child sexually abusive material on the internet.
The three defendants and the charges filed are as follows:
Alfred Charles Reed, 22, of Shields is charged with five counts of possession of child sexually abusive material and five counts of using a computer to commit a crime. He was arraigned in 70th District Court on Aug. 4.
John William Anderson, 18, of St. Charles is charged with two counts of possession of child sexually abusive material and two counts of using a computer to commit a crime. He was arraigned in 70th District Court on Aug. 20.
Seth Daniel Gunn, 21, of Kimball Township is charged with three counts of possession of child sexually abusive material and one count of using a computer to commit a crime. He was arraigned in 72nd District Court on Aug. 23.
The MSP Computer Crimes Unit encourages parents to speak to their kids about the safe use of the internet, nothing that there are many resources available to parents to assist in keeping children safe online. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children provides a comprehensive list of resources on their website at www.missingkids.org. The MSP ICAC Task Force also has more at this link.
