OAKLAND COUNTY (WWJ) - An overturned gravel hauler and hundreds of gallons of leaked fuel are hindering clean up efforts on Saturday from a crash that injured two people on I-96 in Oakland County, officials say.

Michigan State Police said troopers were called to the scene on eastbound I-96 near Kent Lake Road around 10:40 a.m. on Saturday after receiving reports of a three vehicle injury crash.

As troopers arrived on scene, they found a semi truck that was hauling gravel laying on its side with debris scattered across the roadway, blocking the eastbound lanes of travel.

MSP estimated over 200 gallons of fuel leaked from the overturned semi and saturated the freeway with fears that it may have also seeped into the drainage.

The driver of the semi truck and the driver of another vehicle involved in the crash were transported to Novi Providence hospital for medical treatment, MSP added.

Officials said they have currently shut down all eastbound lanes of I-96 as well as the left lane on the westbound side as MSP works to investigte the crash.

Clean up efforts are underway, but authorities add that there is no timeframe for when the freeway might reopen.

At this time, all traffic is exiting at Kent Lake Road. WWJ traffic reporter O'neil Stevens suggests drivers take Grand River Ave. as an alternate route.
