5 people taken to hospital after woman crashes SUV into Thai takeout restaurant in Bloomfield Township

BLOOMFIELD TWP. (WWJ) -- Several people taken to the hospital after a car smashed into a restaurant in Bloomfield Township.

According to the Bloomfield Township Police Department, the crash happened at around 1:40 p.m. Thursday at "Thai Taste To Go" along Telegraph Rd. near Long Lake Rd.

Police said a 77-year-old Bloomfield Hills woman crashed an SUV into the building, injuring multiple people.

Six people were checked out by firefighters and EMS crews, according to police, and five of them were taken to a hospital for treatment of non life-threatening

It's unclear at this time what caused the driver to crash, as the investigation continues.

Fire personnel secured the utilities in the building, and representatives from the city were called in to assess the structural damage, officials said.

Businesses in shopping center will be closed until repairs are complete, and authorities can confirm that it's safe to reopen.

“We are grateful that the injuries sustained were not life-threatening, and we appreciate the quick coordination between the police and fire departments," ,” said Police Chief James Gallagher, in a statement. “We want to thank the witnesses who assisted on scene and to the West Bloomfield Township Fire Department for their assistance."

Police are asking any drivers who have dash cam footage, or business owners in the are who may have have security video showing what happened, to call the Bloomfield Township PD at 248-433-7755.
