DETROIT (WWJ) -- A 5-year-old Detroit boy is in the hospital after being hit by a bullet that was fired at a park near his home.
According to police, the shots were fired at Fargo-Oakfield Park, on the city's west side, at around 8:50 p.m. Tuesday.
Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison said the boy was riding his bike with his father in front of their home, which is near the park.
"The random shots were fired at the park, but in the air, and of course, bullets travel," Bettison said. "And so the child was in front of his home, where he's supposed to be, being supervised. And, so...the child did nothing wrong, and the parents did nothing wrong."
The bullet went clean through the boys arm.
He is expected to recover, the chief said.
The suspect is described as teenager, around 15 or 16 years old, possibly wearing a mask.
