WARREN (WWJ) -- A 6-year-old who was taken hostage in Warren is now safe following a police standoff on Thursday morning.
WWJ's Charlie Langton reports that the incident happened just after midnight at the Warren Manor Apartments when a man with a gun barricaded himself inside one of the complex’s units.
Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dywer said that it took five hours to convince the gunman to surrender under a high-pressure hostage situation that involved a child.
“He was holding a 6-year-old hostage in the apartment. We activated our special response team, they did an excellent job by talking the person out of the apartment," Dwyer said. "He’s currently under arrest in our custody.”
There were no injuries in the incident, and it’s still unclear what led to the standoff.
The Warren Manor Apartments, located at 8 mile and Dequindre Road, have had three homicides in the last three years.
