ROSCOMMON COUNTY (WWJ) - A Northern Michigan community is left in mourning after a weekend crash caused by a blown tire killed a 7-year-old girl and severely injured two other family members
According to the Roscommon County Sheriff's Office, a family of six was traveling in a vehicle on the southbound side of I-75 when a tire blew out around 4:15 p.m. Sunday, May 14.
The blown tire caused the vehicle to spin and it flipped several times.
Deputies said 7-year-old girl died at the scene while a 10-year-old girl sustained life-threatening injuries and a 33-year-old woman is in critical condition at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.
The three other people in the vehicle were unhurt in the crash, according to the sheriff's office.
The young girl who died was identified as a student at Kalkaska Public Schools, as reported by WPBN/WGTU, which is providing grief services to students and staff.
Superintendent Rick Heitmeyer said grief counselors will be available to help them get through this tragedy.
"Just helping them understand the situation and helping them get through the situation," Supt. Heitmeyer said.
The sheriff's office has not released the name of the victims or the deceased at this time.
