Northern Minnesotans are certainly used to weather whiplash, but this past 24 hours was pretty extreme.

On Tuesday, International Falls, MN hit a summer-like 82 degrees in the noon hour.  Then, the wind flipped, started blowing in drier, cooler air and by midnight it had dropped to the mid-40's.

Then the National Weather Service office in Duluth, MN tweeted Wednesday morning that one of their weather observers saw about 10 minutes of snow falling.

There is also a frost advisory for the top tier of Minnesota with lows falling to the low 30's overnight. Plenty cool enough for some flurries.

If you're wondering if this is rare, it is.  But it does happen.  In fact, the latest ever measurable snow in Minnesota happened in the same area.  Mizpah, in Koochiching County, received an inch and a half of snowfall on June 4, 1935.  International Falls is the home of the earliest snowfall ever in Minnesota when a third of an inch fell September 14th, 1964.

Summer doesn't last long in Frostbite Falls.

While the Twin Cities aren't that cold, there is definitely a change in the air here with a cool wind, lower temps and much lower humidity on Wednesday.  Expect even colder with enough rain to call it a washout on Thursday.  Highs will barely get out of the 40's.

Memorial Day weekend looks a little better with temps getting back into the 60's Friday-Sunday and over 70 again for the holiday and trending a little drier.

Enjoy the summer while you can Minnesota.
