SHELBY TWP. (WWJ) -- A woman is dead after being stabbed by someone she knew on Sunday afternoon, at a gas station in Macomb County.

Shelby Township Police received reports of an assault around 5 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 21) at the Meijer gas station on Hall Road, located between Hayes and Schoenherr roads.

On scene, police found a woman who was stabbed. She was transported to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries.

A male suspect fled the scene. He was eventually taken into custody by Macomb County Sheriff's Deputies.

Investigators said this was not a random attack. Both the victim and the suspect are from Utica and knew each other, although their exact relationship was not disclosed. Reports say the victim was the attacker's ex-wife, but police are not confirming that detail at this time.

A Macomb County Sheriff's patrol car ended up in the retention pond in the parking lot near the Meijer. Police did not say how that happened.

The case remains under investigation.

Officials say the suspect, who remained jailed on Monday, is not expected to be arraigned on charges until Tuesday or Wednesday. More details about the case are expected to be released at that time.
