All graduates at Detroit Loyola High School accepted to college for 11th straight year

DETROIT (WWJ) -- For the 11th year in a row, every senior at Detroit Loyola High School will graduate today, and each one of them has been accepted to college.

Principal Wyatt Jones III credits the hard work of the students and their parents during the COVID-19 pandemic, along with staff who used positive encouragement to push through a tough year.

“Our 2021 graduating class persevered and thrived during the challenges of a global pandemic over the past two school years,” Jones said. “They have set a high bar for Loyola classes to follow by being the ultimate role models for our school’s mission of creating ‘Men for Others. Men for Detroit.’”

The 31 graduates in Loyola’s 2021 class will bring the school’s consecutive, 100% college-bound total to 350 students since the 2009-2010 school year.

Jones says half the kids will be the first in their families to go to college. He is also a proud 1998 Loyola Detroit High School grad himself.

The 2021 graduation ceremony will take place at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2 at Detroit’s historic Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament. The commencement speaker will be Christian Greer, President & CEO of the Michigan Science Center.
