ALPENA (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police say a lengthy investigation led to the arrest of an Alpena man who's accused of trafficking a large amount of illegal narcotics.

According to officials with the MSP 7th District, 56-year-old Troy Wardlaw was caught with nearly one pound of suspected cocaine when he was taken into custody on Sept. 29.

Police said the drugs, which were discovered following an investigation by the Huron Undercover Narcotics Team (HUNT), were being trafficked to the Alpena area

Warrants were served, MSP said, and four pistols were seized, along with more suspected cocaine, and what police called "evidence of the distribution of narcotics." MSP did not specify what that evidence was.

Wardlaw was arraigned in the 88th District Court of Alpena County on Wednesday on one count of Possession with Intent to Deliver Cocaine (50-499 grams). He could face decades in prison if he's convicted.

HUNT was assisted by the MSP Alpena Post, MSP Strike Team Investigative Narcotics Group (STING) and Alpena Police Department. HUNT is a multijurisdictional task force comprised of state, local, and federal entities. HUNT services Alpena, Alcona, Presque Isle and Montmorency Counties.
