ALPENA (WWJ) -- A Northern Michigan woman is facing charges for allegedly stabbing a man in the back after they argued over a text message.
Autumn Marie Burton of Alpena was arraigned in 88th District Court in Alpena County on one count Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, and one count Domestic Violence in connection with the incident last Tuesday, Feb. 27.
According Michigan State Police, Burton was at a home on Blanchard Street in Alpena Township that afternoon, helping a man move.
Investigators said the 35-year-old woman got mad when she saw a text message between the man and another woman, and when the man tried to comfort Burton by hugging her, she stabbed him in the back.
The injured man fled the scene, called police, and met with MSP troopers at a home on E Nicholson Hill Road. He was treated by EMS and then taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Burton went home, and when troopers arrived to question her it took some time for them to convince her to come outside, MSP said.
When she came out and spoke with police she no longer had the knife, allegedly telling troopers that she threw it out her car window as she was driving home.
Burton was arrested and booked in the Alpena County Jail.
She was released on a $2,500, 10% cash/surety bond with her next court court appearance scheduled for March 12.
