DETROIT (WWJ) – Slowly, but surely, it looks like Michigan gas prices are starting to drop.
Sunday’s average gas price in Michigan was $5.165, according to AAA. That’s down a penny from Saturday’s average, and down about $0.06 from last Sunday, when the state’s average per-gallon price peaked at an all-time high of $5.22.
Average prices are still up about 60 cents compared to this time a month ago and more than $2 this time last year.
Oakland County still had the state’s highest average on Sunday, at $5.31, while the cheapest gas in the state could be found in the Upper Peninsula’s Alger County at $4.79.
Many Michiganders will be hoping the prices continue to drop even more ahead of the Fourth of July as we take to the roads for holiday travel.
CBS News reports the Energy Information Administration expect gas will be under $4.30 in the third quarter. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said it will be a "tough summer" as demand continues during travel season.
