
MACOMB COUNTY (WWJ) -- A 43-year-old Armada man has been charged with assaulting two police officers who were serving him a mental health petition.
The Macomb County Prosecutor's office said Christopher Lynch was allegedly being served at his home on Wednesday.
While the two Armada officers were serving the petition, Lynch allegedly pushed one over a second story banister and physically assaulted the other.
It was reported that the officer who was thrown down the stairs sustained multiple broken bones in the incident while the other was "banged up." Both officers were taken to McLaren Macomb Hospital in Mount Clemens for treatment.
"Violence against police officers needs to stop. Police officers are doing their job to protect our community and I will prosecute those who cause them harm while performing their duty, ” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido said in a press release.
Lynch is said to have embraced anti-police and anti-government views in the past.
The reason for the mental commitment order wasn't immediately clear.
The suspect is said to have been checked out at the hospital before being taken to the Macomb County Jail.
The 43-year-old is being charged with Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer Causing Serious Injury, a 15 year felony, and Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer Causing Injury, a four year felony.
District Court Judge John Chmura set an interim bond for Lynch at $100,000. If Lynch is released on bond, he is to not be within 1,000 feet of the Armada Police Department.
Lynch will be arraigned Monday, November 13 in Romeo District Court.
