DETROIT (WWJ) – Four people are injured, including three 14-year-olds after gunfire erupted on Detroit’s west side Thursday night in an incident Detroit Police Chief James White described as a “shootout.”

Police received a ShotSpotter alert and at least one 911 call around 8:50 p.m. when shots rang out on Penrod Street near the Davison and Southfield Freeway, White told reporters Thursday night.

Many details remain unclear, including what exactly prompted the shootout, but White said it appeared to be a "neighbor" dispute. He noted it may have stemmed from a delivery.

At least one suspect had been taken into custody and four guns were recovered, as of 10:30 p.m.

White said authorities found three people shot at the scene – two of the teens and a person in their 20s. The third 14-year-old ran to a different location, where someone called 911.

One person who was shot in the face was listed in serious condition, while the others ranged from temporary serious to serious, according to White.

Officers went inside a home in the area and removed 11 people, ranging in ages 7 to 20.

White said the investigation is still in the very early stages and called it a "fluid situation."
