BRIGHTON TWP. (WWJ) -- Police are searching for a man who allegedly tried to abduct an 8-year-old girl who was riding her bike in Brighton Township Wednesday evening.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police Brighton Post responded at around 7 p.m. on May 27 to a call from the girl's father, on Rosemary Lane.
The dad told troopers that his daughter was riding her bike on Rosemary when a man approached her.
He appeared to be a traveling salesman working door-to-door, MSP said.
Investigating troopers said man asked the girl to go into the woods with him, promising her "a surprise."
The suspect then attempted to lure the child into a nearby wooded area.
The girl's father confronted the man, asked him what he was doing, and the suspect fled the scene on a Segway-type vehicle.
Troopers searched the surrounding area but were unable to find the suspect.
He was last seen near the intersection of Old US-23 and Alger Drive in Brighton Township.
Suspect Description
Police have released the following description of the suspect:
- Race: White or Hispanic male
- Clothing: Blue shorts, a black polo shirt, and a light green ball cap
- Identifying Features: Wearing an identification badge for a pest control company
- Vehicle: Segway-type personal transporter
As the investigation continues, MSP said troopers and detectives will continue canvassing the area for surveillance footage and talking with neighbor's.
