FRASER TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Police suspect two mid-Michigan residents and their dog died from carbon monoxide poisoning in their home over the weekend after their power had been shut off for non-payment a few days prior.
Officials with the Michigan State Police said troopers first responded to the house on Kaiser Tower Road in Fraser Township on Sunday afternoon after dispatch spoke with a caller who reported finding the bodies inside the residence around 3:30 p.m.
Police found the bodies of Bridgitte Hill, 60, of Pinconning and Dennis Mackenze, 60, of AuGres along with a deceased dog upon arrival.
Authorities said multiple appliances were located throughout the house; a generator was found in the basement and both propane and electric space heaters were found in other rooms.
Police strongly believe the deaths were caused by carbon monoxide, although the investigation is ongoing. Consumers Energy confirmed the residence had power cut off last Wednesday due to non-payment.
Police said poor ventilation while operating the appliances "may have caused fatal levels of carbon monoxide to occur."
